Our Guide to Health Insurance Open Enrollment

November 9, 2017

If you don’t have health insurance or would like to make changes to your current insurance policy, you will be pleased to learn that it’s time for open enrollment. While it might not seem like it makes much sense to turn to a Los Angeles tax specialist to help you find the right health insurance plan, who better to help you find a policy you can afford than someone who has a firm grasp of your financial situation? Learn how to make sense of the enrollment period and find the perfect health insurance policy.

Know the Dates

Not only can a tax expert agency help you find the perfect health care plan, they can help ensure you submit all paperwork on time. When it comes to 2018 open enrollment, essential dates you should know include:

• November 1, 2017, which is when the open enrollment period starts

• December 15, 2017, which is the last day to either enroll or change your current health plan

• January 1, 2018, which is when your new policy will take effect

Know that there is a special enrollment period after December 15th that will allow you to enroll. Instances that can qualify you for this special enrollment period include getting married, having a baby and losing your current coverage.

You Can Look Outside ACA Exchanges

Know that you aren’t limited to only plans offered in the ACA exchange. Maybe your income is too high and an Encino tax adviser has informed you that you don’t qualify for tax credits. Or, perhaps you want more options for health care coverage. You can also look elsewhere if you have a chronic condition or a provider network doesn’t include doctors, clinics or hospitals you like. No matter the reason, know that you aren’t stuck with a plan you don’t like.
